Agricultural Usage Tips:

  • Use a probe to determine the soil moisture content or moisture dept.
  • Apply enough water to fill the root zone while limiting runoff and deep-percolation. Use cut-back methods by reducing flow when water reaches the end of the furrows.
  • Use daily Evapotranspiration (E.T.) data if available to determine plant water usage.
  • Know your soil characteristics, crop needs, and field slopes to help determine water application rates and amounts.
  • Level fields to improve application and crop uniformity.
  • Install measuring devices so you know how much water is being applied.
  • Recover tailwater and transport it to a natural water course. Remember you are responsible for your tailwater.
  • When possible, pipe or line ditches, and install improved irrigation technology such as drip or sprinkler systems to reduce deep percolation and improve water use efficiency.

Underground Valves

Water Users should not access PID Underground valves. If there is a situation where a water user believes operation of the underground valve is necessary, District Staff should be contacted.
